What Is African Mango?

African mango is another weight loss ingredient that had taken the diet supplement market by storm when it first came out. The fruit, scientifically known as Irvingia Gabonensis, grows in West Africa and has been used for decades to help manage cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Natives also use this fruit to treat infections. It is the African mango’s seed, the Dikka nut, which provides the powerful extract, reportedly the prime factor for fast weight loss.

Each capsule of African Mango Plus contains the following: • Chromium Polynicotinate — a diet suppressant. • African Mango Extract ——- 150 mg. quantity is good enough for one capsule • Green Tea Leaf Extract —– an antioxidant as well as a metabolic kicker • Caffeine — Most diet supplements can’t seem to do without this ingredient. In this particular supplement, caffeine content is as much as 3 cups of coffee. • L-Theanine — an amino acid found in green tea. It has a calming effect. It is also a mood enhancer. Why this ingredient is included, we do not know. Perhaps it is there to counter the possible anxious moods the high percentage of caffeine may trigger? Well, this is just our speculation.

What Are the Side Effects?

So far, no major side effects have been reported. However, because of the high caffeine content, it would serve you well to take caution if you are on any medication. In addition, if you are sensitive to caffeine, expect the usual side effects associated with it.

Does African Mango Work?

A study reported in the online journal, “Lipids in Health and Disease,” proved the effectivity of African mango. The experiment was conducted at the University of Yaounde in Cameroon on 102 weight-challenged individuals. One group was given 300 mg. of African mango extract daily while the other, a placebo for a total of 10 weeks. No special diets were imposed and everyone was told to maintain their normal exercise levels. At the end of the research, the group that took African mango extract had dropped an average of 28 pounds while the group with the placebo showed hardly any changes in their weight. Furthermore, the African mango group actually showed a decline in their LDL cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

The Bottom Line:

African Mango Plus is worth a try. There has been a great deal of good reviews on the product. Given the high caffeine content, however, it may be best for caffeine-sensitive dieters to look elsewhere. Supplements like Phentramin-D contain no caffeine and incorporate safe, effective ingredients that have helped people lose weight and keep it off. Take a look at your alternative here.
